Running Tour of Goose Island with Chelsey Grassfield

Join guide Chelsey Grassfield on this ~3.5 mile, easy-paced run from Lathrop Homes to Goose Island where you'll run around and on this artificial island, perhaps best known for its eponymous beer company, check out the Wild Mile, learn a little of its history, and more. Meet at 6pm on Wednesday, March 15 at Lathrop Dog Park (Google Maps link here). Optional post-run discussion with Guide Chelsey Grassfield will be held at Off Color Brewing (Google Maps link here).

Register for the run here.

REQUIRED DONATION: To attend, you must make a donation to the Illinois Environmental Council (IEC) USING THIS LINK. Give what you can, but we suggest a $20 donation. Guide Chelsey Grassfield is on the IEC Young Professionals Board and is fundraising with her colleagues for the IEC to benefit the important environmental work they do.

OPTIONAL READING: As this event is a running tour, reading the book prior is optional.

If you do read the book inspiring this series, we suggest reading the following chapters from The Chicago River: a Natural and Unnatural History by Libby Hill:

  • Chapter 10: North Branch Settlement (particularly pages 76-77)

  • Chapters 1- 3: Location, Location, Location; Geological Foundations: Bedrock Ice; Branches and Forks (helpful context for the river system in general)
